Big Brother in Europe

In the first series of Big Brother on Channel 4 half the housemates stripped off before they even knew each other. In the first series of Big Brother on German channel RTL Television some of the housemates stripped off after they got to know each other and the infra-red cameras lingered over rhythmic blankets that were keeping the others awake.

Big Brother in Denmark

In April 2001 broadcaster TvDanmark ran into problems when all of the seven remaining contestants walked out of the house. "We have voted out Big Brother" they said. After negotiations Big Brother convinced four of them to return to the house but agreed to allow them to have visitors to keep them company.

Big Brother in Portugal

In the first series of Big Brother on Portuguese channel TVI, Marco demonstrated his martial arts skills with housemate Sonia, kicking her in the stomach and throwing her to the floor. Big Brother decided to expel him from the Big Brother House. In an edition attracting record audiences he begged forgiveness and burst out crying before finally leaving the house.

In the 2001 series of Big Brother on TVI two contestants announced that they planned to get married inside the Big Brother House.

Big Brother in Spain

In the second series of Gran Hermano on Spanish channel Telecinco contestant Carlos was also thrown out of the house by Big Brother for being too aggressive with the other housemates. Big Brother had phoned his mother who said she thought his behaviour was abnormal. Others explained he was addicted to tobacco and he could be suffering withdrawal symptoms. When Big Brother informed him of his fate he spluttered: "Don't throw me out like a dog." The series has attracted up to a 41% audience share.
